National Art Gallery

Today we saw ReadyMade by Marcel Duchamp. He was the first to introduce the "readymades" into the galleries. Duchamp was at first meant to show with Picasso but the Cubists rejected his work claiming that it was too futurist. He swore never to paint again and moved to America. There he took objects such as bottle racks, a urinal, and my favorite - the bicycle wheel attached to a stool and claimed it was art. He wasn't interested in beauty or ugliness, he simply wanted to raise the question; what is art? What do we consider as art? He was also one to introduce chance procedures into his art technique - for example; he would let a string drop on a canvas and glue it there - and called it art.

No. 29 by Jackson Pollock also in The National Gallery of Canada (French: Musée des Beaux Arts du Canada)

We also had lunch at Green Door. It is a delicious vegetarian eatery on Main Street. Most ingredients are organic.. even the sugar. Save room for dessert and Chai tea!
