The Ouverture spirituelle: opening fest for the Salzburg Festival
Kollegienkirche (Kollegien Church), 23.July 2016, 17-18h
St. Petersburg’ violin virtuoso, Conductor and Composer Iwan Chandoschkin created a considerable heritage, even though only 4 Sonatas and a dozen of Variations had been maintained and are known now. His legislation is a transition from the classical tradition of Corelli and Tartini into national Russian school of sensibility and early Romanticism. Elena Denisova will play a solo concert with the sonatas No. 1, 2 and 3 in the beautiful sound atmosphere of Kollegien Church and thus enable the pieces of Chandoschkin to their impressive premiere at the Salzburg Festival. As an ambassador of tonal sensuality, Elena Denisova is among the most charismatic personalities of the international violin elite. The special sound comes off the Evah Pirazzi Gold Strings of Pirastro.

„Discoveries start off the overture“
The first Mozart matinee with a bizarre program surprises just as much as a violinist at the „Celebration of the festival opening“
...
Even more astonishing surprises were found at the church „Kollegienkirche“ on Saturday as the Russian violinist Elena Denisova performed at the „Celebration of the festival opening“: Apparently there was – even before Paganini – a Russian violinist and composer of whom we didn´t even know the name: Ivan Chandoshkin ( 1747 – 1804 ) – unfortunately only very few pieces of him are preserved. Especially in the sonata op. 3 No 1 the Italian devil´s violinist is anticipated. The three solo sonatas which were performed at the church can only make us assume how large this still- baroque and already Russian – evoked repertoire must be. How brilliant and without any slightest blur in intonation, this delicate music was presented by Denisova, cannot be left unmentioned.
A dual discover, if you will, and with the Haydn requiem even treble one!
