Montreal/Frère André/ D. Hvorostovsky/Juliette et Chocolat/McGill/Magritte

Montreal, I love the soul of this city: mixes of culture, architecture, fashion, the taste of food ( you really can find anything), 5 universities, Jazz, and art. A city that never sleeps. One of the wonders is a new Café: "Juliette & Chocolate" (corner of Prince Albert and St. Laurence) It is all about chocolate and where there is chocolate there are a lot of girls. Practically 98% - ladies in this café.

Oratoire St-Joseph now. The dome is the world's second-largest, after St. Peter's in Rome.

Architect(s) Dalbé Viau and Alphonse Venne
Architectural style Italian renaissance
Year completed 1967
Construction cost $2.3 Million (CAD)

Inside there are essentially two large churches one atop the other, as well as side chapels including the candlelit hall leading to Frère André's tomb.

Religious visitors sometimes climb the steps in the middle, praying at every step; more pragmatic ones walk up normally or take one of the free shuttle buses from the base.

D. Hvorostovsky
We visited this time for Radvanovsky and D. Hvorostovsky concert.

American soprano Sondra Radvanovsky’s dramatic stage presence and stunning vocal gifts have firmly established her as one of the leading stars on the international stage today. The New York Times has praised her “rich, tremulous soprano voice and affecting intensity,” while The Times (UK) hailed her as “a true Verdian, with a big, juicy, vibrato-rich sound.”
Brilliant pianist and conductor Constantine Orbelian
The brilliant pianist and conductor Constantine Orbelian is the first American ever to become music director of an ensemble in Russia. His appointment in 1991 as Music Director of the celebrated Moscow Chamber Orchestra was a breakthrough event and came in the midst of Orbelian's successful career as a concert pianist.

William and Henry Birks Building
This structure, known as Divinity Hall until 1972, was originally owned by the Joint Board of Theological Colleges and was built between 1929 and 1931 by Harold Fetherstonhaugh, a student of Percy Nobbs. Its cruciform plan, Collegiate Gothic design, and many architectural details all reflect the religious function of this building without favoring any particular denomination. This concurs with the religious attitudes on which McGill was founded.

The Faculty of Religious Studies is located in the handsome William and Henry Birks Building, erected in 1931, formerly known as Divinity Hall, at 3520 University Street. In addition to usual classrooms, offices, and common rooms, this building accommodates the Birks Heritage Chapel.
In addition to all the resources of the McGill University Libraries system, students may use the Birks Reading Room.
The two-story, galleried chapel seats about 150. It initially reflected the interdenominational nature of the original colleges, and the ecumenical intention of Divinity Hall, now the Birks Building, home of the Faculty of Religious Studies.
